This time of year unlocks an ugly part of my psyche I call the "Christmas mum" (I know many awesome and highly engaged dads; none do this). In this one season, it becomes really important to colour code giant spreadsheets of food. One day I will learn nobody I love to feed over the break truly needs or wants thyme-infused pastry. (benefits of christmas mumming; tree is cute) Until then, because the other thing I love to do this time of year is read, think and go for lots of long cold walks, here are some things I'm thinking about. |
from Renaissance coffeehouses to Bauhaus, Salmon Creek Farm to Black Mountain College, the biggest thread in my reading & interests over the years are clusters that come together and collectively create very different futures. Scenius = collective genius. Rare and precious. I gasped out loud learning about Second Renaissance; an incredibly cool archive where many examples of this has been collected, tagged and organised to understand the philosophies, funding, governance and norms that create these conditions. More mastery; this documentary by Stripe Press on master perfumer Christophe Laudemiel. Wow!

My two favourite Instagram accounts of the year were endless weird inspiration from Psychedelic Archives + Das Archivee To help us touch grass on the break, Danger Testing dropped their newest app Kumo; a Tamagotchi who thrives when you're offline. Cute.

Finally, if you'd like to unlock your own Christmas mum (gender agnostic), go check out the Buchheit cookie world; the cherry Nutcracker moulds make me nostalgic for a past I didn't experience, the website makes me nostalgic for a past I did. Humans are brilliant.
